On the afternoon of Saturday 18th September, Hyde Park was buzzing with a contagious carnivalesque atmosphere. As Carol Vorderman entertained a crowd of almost 80,000, High Society staff busied themselves preparing tea and cakes in Pope Benedict XVI’s Private Rooms. As the 265th Pope’s first Papal Visit to the UK, this was a landmark event which High Society was proud to be affiliated with.As darkness fell, the colourful sea of school banners and national flags calmed to a flickering sheet of candles. The crowd-turned-congregation fell silent as the Pope conducted an open-air vigil. High Society staff worked tirelessly for twelve hours, ensuring that choirs, clergy, and everyone backstage (including Britain’s Got Talent singer Liam McNally) were well-looked after.
Not your typical Saturday shift, but a historic first that the staff will not forget.
